Expand Your Network
Most of your colleagues will accept you for who you are and recognize that you belong. Gain their appreciation by being a great listener and remembering small details that make a difference, like birthdays or sending get-well notes. Congratulate peers on their accomplishments. Building these relationships makes work more enjoyable and can lead to positive referrals for the future.

You’ve likely heard the saying, “To be noticed, you have to be twice as good.” While office politics and favoritism can be frustrating, respond to subtle discrimination by continuing to produce quality work. Your efforts will eventually be noticed by those who matter, leading to stellar references. Even if you feel undervalued, the most important thing is to know your worth and believe that perseverance will pay off.

Success stories of Black women rising to executive positions and even CEO roles are plentiful. There is no reason you can’t join their ranks if you approach your work with the right mindset and don’t let workplace discrimination bring you down. You have just as much opportunity as anyone else.
